Media Program.
Suara Masyarakat (EN: Community Voices) is a three-year program that aims to build the capacity of Malaysian Journalists to:
Deliver high quality investigative and data journalism on Malaysia’s reform processes.
Develop community information media and networks for good governance by providing a two-way communication between citizens and local authorities.
Suara Masyarakat is focused on amplifying the voices of women, minorities and marginalized group to empower local communities.
This program is funded by the European Union and implemented by Internews Malaysia together with local partners.
A program of the Suara Masyarakat Project, MOJO Citizen Media Program is a mobile journalism mentorship opportunity for Malaysians.
Dubbed ‘MOJO Kita – Let Every Voice Be Heard’, it aims to raise community voices especially thoseunderrepresented in the media. The program isdesigned to support mentees and theirdiverse background as storytellers – capturing local voices highlighting important issues to them and the community.
Internews Malaysia and NGOhub developed a curriculum to launch targeted social media campaigns and engage citizens as well as relevant state institutions in reform efforts. The curriculum allows journalistic video productions to be affordable, flexible and faster to encourage production of digital stories using their smartphones that can help bypass state-controlled traditional media outlets.
First mobile journalism program of its kind in Malaysia (scale and objective) launched in June with 10 mentors and 100 mentees in participation from June 2020 – June 2022.
